New to the Hen House!

The crazy Stampotique images have made it to The Hen House!  They are so cute, full of mischief, and so much fun to play with!

Isn't he adorable?

Are you aware of this Scientific Fact?  It's from the new Funny Bones line of stamps from Riley and Company.

These three cards are what I will be teaching at the Hen House next Tuesday the 12th from 2-4 p.mp and again on Friday the 22nd in the morning from 10:30-12:30.

We will use our Copics to color, new Glitter from Winter's CHA, The Quickie Glue pen, and build our background with stamps on the above card.

Here are the Copics to bring to class with you.

As always, bring your detail scissors and foam mounting tape or dimensional adhesive with you. Of course we will use your tape runner adhesive also.

Call the Hen House at 221-6366 or register on-line to reserve your spot.  Hope to see you there!!

Christmas Wrap Up

Confession time.......  I got a handful of Christmas cards made a not a one mailed out.  How about you??  Are you still waiting to pen that annual letter or in need of some Christmas gift thank you cards?  Here is a trio of cards that would be perfect to tuck that late Christmas letter into, send thank yous, or just send warm winter wishes in.

Winter Trio is a class I will be teaching Saturday afternoon and next Tuesday at The Hen House.  We will play with the new Tim Holtz Tattered Poinsettia die and some lovely papers from Kaisercraft.

These pine trees are colored with Timmy's wonderful Distress Markers, using his stamp, and one of his embossing folders on the poinsettia.

On this last card we will do some emboss resist technique to make a versatile "Let it snow" card.  That means next week will be time to pack up my Christmas stamp collection and tuck them into safe keeping until next fall.

Class is this Saturday afternoon 12:30-3:30 or Tuesday the 15th from 10:30-12:30 at The Hen House.  You can register for either date here.  Hope to see you!

Hello!!

Are you ready to start making Christmas cards or gift tags?
If you are looking for a jump start, maybe I can help.  I'll be teaching classes at both China Phoenix 2 and The Hen House Paperie in the next couple of weeks.  So here at the details.

This class of three cards will be offered at The Hen House on this coming Tuesday morning, November 27 at 10:30 a.m. or on Saturday, December 8 fr  om 2-4 pm. We will use dies from My Favorite Things and stamps from Hero Arts. Just for fun, I'll be bringing a variety of embellishments for the chevron card allowing you to keep it simple for mailing or kick it up with bling to attach to a gift or hand deliver!  I'm thinking plates of goodies for neighbors and friends ;D

Do you have some scraps of patterned paper or old Christmas patterned paper that you cant bear to toss?  Bring them and turn them into hexagons for fun cards and tags.  The possibilities are endless when you mixy and matchy. Come prepared to have some fun to "die" for.

Next is a class at China Phoenix 2 on Saturday morning, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. This class will use stamps from Hero Arts and several coloring techniques for making these poinsettias.  We will use Distress Stains, and Distress Ink Pads to get our desired results.  A spray of shine, some Liquid Pearls, watercolor paper...and you will have some Merry cards to add to your stash or actually use!!

You can call Nancy at 884-8217 if you would like to register for this class.

Thank you for hanging in with me through this long post and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Weekend...

Yes!!  That's my Maggie getting pinned a graduate nurse Friday evening!!  Next she takes her NCLEX board exam and works on getting her BS in nursing.

I am soooooo proud of her!!

We're all proud of her!!

Next on our agenda is David's wedding in Nashville on the 25th. He is marrying a very sweet woman, Elise.  As you can guess, we've been busy trying to get everything ready on our end.

A few nights ago I decided it was time to call on the crafty part of my brain and get a purse designed to carry.  Nothing I have seemed right for the night.
Sensing the urgency of the situation, my kitty, Simon, got right in the middle of it all to supervise me.  He always does!

Above is the front of my wrist-let, and bellow is the back side.

I decided to use supplies I already had on hand.....some burlap, muslin, an old zipper, a doily, and some cotton twill tape.  Two hours later, it  was done and I was very happy and relieved.

One more thing crossed off my list......;D

It's time to scrap!!....and my daughter's news!!

Big day here.....
Maggie passed her final with flying colors and will be pinned a graduated RN tomorrow evening!!!  This is especially big news as the earlier reports today had her failing her final and thus this final phase four, and thus in an emotional free fall into the depths of despair !!  Not sure what the error was, but she aced her final and overall score!! I'm sure she's probably explained it all very humorously here. I'll try to post pics very soon....now for the crafty stuff.....!

Do you love Basic Grey?  Want some help in putting their latest and greatest to use?  Scraps Galore is part of BG's Page of the Month (POTM) club.  Each month, BG puts together a 2-page layout that uses their latest collection.  It contains new papers, embellishments, and photo instructions for making the LO, sometimes even including bonus on-line links for projects using the leftovers from your kit.  Here is their August POTM layout:

Lucky for me, I get to teach this class each month at Scraps Galore and help you put your layout together!  Our class for August will be Thursday evening from 6-8pm.  Our theme is "favorites".....so make a list of about six favorite things, places, events, etc.  I chose to make a list of six events or things that have highlighted my summer.

If you have ever taken one of my card making classes, you know how much I love to sew on my projects with my little Janome Sew-Mini.  So no shocker that I also love to sew on my scrapbook layouts, too!  This layout has a lot of faux stitching on it, however, I will have my trusty little machine set up Thursday for anyone who wants to give actual sewing on their layout a try.  Of course faux stitching is always fine of you prefer.

Aren't these papers and embellishments wonderful?! You will have plenty of leftovers too for another LO or card making! YUMMM!! Call Elizabeth to at 858-1080 to find out more or register for class.

Supplies to bring:
Craft knife
Adhesive
Paper Trimmer
Detail Scissors
Fine tipped black pen for journaling and faux stitching
Foam adhesive
Liquid adhesive
5/8" circle punch of you own one....I'll bring mine

Photos used:
two 4x6 trimmed in class to about 3 1/2" w X 3 3/8"t
you could also use 4-6 small photos in addition to the above photos .  These would be 1.5"- 1.75" squares.

Flowers

Are you ready for class Saturday morning?  I sure hope so!  We will meet at The Hen House for a morning full of technique and flowers.

We will color with Copic markers, watercolor with the Brand new Distress Markers, and do embossed resist using distress ink pads and foam applicators.  I'll also show you how to use Perfect Pearl in white to add sheen to your "paint"!

Bring your Distress Markers if you have any, and  foam applicators for Broken China, Peeled Paint, and Mustard Seed if you have.  You will also want to have your own paint brush for water coloring. So much fun!!   And as always, your basic kit including foam adhesive.  I can't wait to share these techniques with you.  I will have the new Ranger watercolor brush for you to try out and see what you think!  Charlene has a great supply of these also.  See you Saturday morning!!

Summer Rides......repeat class!

How cute is this sweet camper!!  Growing up, my parents, brother and I would go camping in a camper built by my grandfather that looked just like this!! There were only five feet in it from floor to ceiling, and as my brother and I got older, we soon couldn't stand straight up in it!  Just a step inside of it in the spring would confirm that we had grown since the fall's last camping trip.  So of course I fell in love with this Unity stamp the moment I saw it and knew I would have to use it in a class this summer.

Here are the other two cards we will make Saturday........

Aren't these images fun?? You can join me Saturday morning at the Hen House for this class!  I will teach you how to draw inspiration from some beautiful My Mind's Eye paper and how to use that inspiration and turn it into a card! We will be using Unity bike stamps and their adorable camper stamp to make a versatile set of cards. I hope to see you there!!

Flowers to wear!!

I promise this is the last family photo!!  But I thought it was too cute to not add!! My mother plays the marimba in church every time they have a service, and my father plays his alto sax with the singing.  So after church last night, we were just having fun making "a joyful noise" together, like old times. Now onto the cards and classes........!

Do you remember the fabric flowers we made awhile back?  Well, while I was laid up unable to move from my back problems, I played with more fabrics, rolling and twisting them into flowers.  Then one night I began playing with these flowers while my mind was thinking about ways to wear them.  In just a few minutes, I had a lovely bib style necklace laid out and I was in love!!
I wore it the next day and can't wait to share it with you on Friday at China Phoenix 2!  Class will be from 1:00 - 4:00. Cost of this class is $40 and will include all of your materials. If you have taken my handmade flower class either last winter or earlier this spring, you get a $15 discount on this class!!

We will use all new and different fabrics in this class, and learn different ways to embellish your flowers to stand alone, top a special gift, or whatever your imagination wants to do with them.
Burlap, anyone??

Maybe you have a special piece of fabric, or a vintage trim or finding you would like to incorporate into your necklace.....bring it along and I will help you!   I can't wait to see all of the beautiful pieces that will be made by the end of class Friday!!  Make sure you call Nancy to get your name on the class list!

I'll be back tomorrow with the details of Saturday's card class at the Hen House

Classes

When it comes to sympathy cards, I don't know anyone who actually enjoys making them.  I never have one made in my stash of cards and decided to change that.  This Hero Arts stamp set has wonderful sentiments and  beautiful flowers in it.

So Saturday afternoon, we are going to make this set of sympathy cards together.  I think it will be easier to make them with friends, and know you will have three cards on hand.  I will bring lots of sentiments to pick and choose from, including this Hero Arts set. These are designs and images that you will be able to use on other cards also.  If you don't want to make sympathy cards, you can easily change out the sentiments for any occasion! There will be plenty of ideas to choose from to meet your needs.

Class will be at China Phoenix 2 this coming Saturday from 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon. As always the machine stitching on the cards will be optional....but is really fun!  You can call Nancy to sign up at 884-8217. I look forward to spending a fun afternoon with you at the shop!!

Now for other news.....!

Thursday marks a new adventure for me as I begin teaching Basic Grey's Lay Out of the Month at Scraps Galore!!  Classes are the 4th Thursday evening of each month from 6:00-8:00pm. My first class will be Thursday evening and I can't wait to scrap with you!!  We'll be using fun papers from the What's Up line, and you will have plenty of leftover product to either make another LO or two or a handful of greeting cards.

I know the photography is all wonky, but it gives you an idea of what we'll be doing.
These papers and embellishments are so much prettier and brighter in real life!!  Fun stuff!  Hope I get to see you Thursday evening.

Thank you for hanging on through this very long post!  I hope to post again in the next day or two about family and the big surprise I got last Wednesday!!
